"When I arrive in the morning, I know every single day we are benefiting someone."

"This is such a beautiful place," says Peter Jennings. "There may be more excitement at a larger medical center but I love the atmosphere here. We are truly part of the community, seeing our patients and their families and friends, whether it’s at the grocery store or a high school football game. That intimacy suits me."

Peter took over the helm in Escanaba in 2003 but joined the OSF family early in his career, serving in administrative positions at both OSF Saint Anthony in Rockford and OSF St. Joseph Hospital in Belvidere. He is a firm believer in the Mission. "I need to make decisions in this chair that the Sisters would.  We believe in protecting, promoting and respecting life, and my job is to help everyone do their job and serve that Mission."

Born in Fargo, North Dakota, Peter grew up in Indiana where he graduated from Purdue University and met his wife Carol. He later received his Master of Health Care Administration degree from Indiana University.  He chose that field because it is "compelling," he says. "It’s where policy, technology and belief all come together."

Peter’s wife, Carol, is a fabric artist and owner of CT Jennings Designs. The couple has one daughter, Katherine, who is in her fifth year as a Knowles science teaching fellow. She and her husband, Steve, an aerospace engineer, live in Indianapolis.

Peter is an avid fisherman who is thrilled to live in Escanaba, the "Walleye capital of the world." But he also enjoys traveling to various fishing tournaments and heading off to his annual Muskie trip; he just won’t say where. "Fisherman have their secrets," he laughs.
