Calendar commemorates 50th
anniversary of OSF Auxiliary
OSF St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary members are celebrating their 50th
anniversary in 2005, marking five decades of helping hospital patients
and their family members. To celebrate the occasion, they have produced
a special commemorative 2006 calendar.
The calendars feature vintage and vintage looking photos of Auxiliary
members in scenes reminiscent of the mid 1950s. They are on sale in the
hospital gift shop for $5 each.

The OSF St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary was started in February 1955 by a
group of 48 women. Today, members number over 200 and the Auxiliary has
donated more than 400,000 volunteer hours in the hospital gift shop; at
the information desks, GoldenCare office and surgical waiting lounge;
within the OSF Home Care and Hospice program; and through special
projects.
Members also raise money for new patient equipment and services at St.
Francis Hospital. Over the past 50 years, they have raised and donated
nearly $500,000, helping to purchase such items as a central fetal
monitoring system, surgical instruments, physical therapy equipment,
display boards for health fairs, an infant hearing screener, birthing
beds and new furniture, automated front doors for the hospital, new
wheelchairs and a bone densitometer. They also make annual donations to
the OSF Home Care HealthWatch personal response system and contributed
generously in the campaign to raise funds for the kidney dialysis
center.
