OSF St. Francis Named Among Nation’s Most
Improved Hospitals
OSF St. Francis Hospital was listed among the 100 most-improved
hospitals in the United States in the March 15 edition of the national
magazine Modern HealthCare. St. Francis Hospital
was
one of only three hospitals in Michigan and the only one in the Upper
Peninsula to make the list.
Three years ago, St. Francis launched a new patient-safety initiative
that included standardizing processes for ordering and administering
medications to reduce the risk for medication errors. The hospital has
also focused efforts on educating the public on the importance of taking
a list of all medications - both prescription and over-the-counter - to
all medical appointments and emergency visits.
A total of 2,866 hospitals were included in the study, conducted by
Solucient, an Evanston, Ill.-based healthcare information company.
Hospitals were ranked on measures of clinical and financial performance,
including patient care, financial performance and operational
efficiency. St. Francis had improvements in all three areas, while at
the same time reducing mortality, complications, expenses and patient
length of stay.
